When using PLC program software, like Siemens STEP7, you will need to save a copy of your project files and configuration data to disk, separate from the PLC “working files”. This will allow a “backup” copy to be made so that it can be retrieved at a later time by you or another programmer in case the working project directory is damaged or corrupted.
STEP7 allows an image of the project directory to be saved as a compressed ZIP file using a procedure called “Archive”. It can then be recalled from the compressed ZIP file using a procedure called “Retrieve”.
An archived project directory can be shared with other programmers and loaded into their STEP7 V5.X or TIA Portal environments for review, testing, or modification.
This course will show you how to archive and retrieve a project directory using STEP7 V5.X or TIA Portal PLC programming software. This method will allow you to make a backup image of the PLC project directory at your command.
