Ideal for you if…

  • You have experience creating PCS7 logic and would like to understand how to connect a WinCC operator station to the AS400 to monitor and control the process

  • You are an engineer that has been asked to design, configure, or implement a PCS7 WinCC operator station

  • You are a technician and have been asked to maintain or troubleshoot devices connected to the PCS7 Terminal Bus

  • You want to expand your understanding of PCS7 by learning how to integrate an OS into your PCS7 hardware configuration

Description

Siemens WinCC for PCS7 is based on Siemens WinCC Professional, a full-featured HMI development system for creating operator graphics. These operator graphics allow the operator to monitor and control the process through interactive graphics with pushbuttons, data entry ports, and other interactive graphic elements.

To demonstrate the many steps to building an operator display and connecting it to the AS400 logic, an example Tank Farm screen with a tank, valve, and pump controls and two ways to display a level indicator is configured. Various techniques, such as the automatic creation of block icons from the AS400 CFC block icons are shown and explained in detail.

The tank, pump, and valve objects, along with the process piping, and descriptive text are added to the graphic. Dynamic objects, values, and data entry ports are added to form a fully-functional operator graphic. Individual object properties are inspected and set for functions such as alarm limits.

The Computer Configuration application in the WinCC Explorer is used to complete the connection of WinCC to the AS400 logic. The graphic is compiled and downloaded to the OS. The graphic is tested in Runtime and each object that was added to the graphic during configuration is tested and verified to operate correctly.

Finally, the advanced topic of scripting is covered by adding a truck unloading setpoint function to the graphic. The script is written in C and is used to manipulate the unloading setpoint when one of two buttons (increase 5%, decrease 5%) is pressed.

Since I started training a few months ago, I can see there’s been a huge difference in how much more efficiently and effectively I can handle PLC repairs in the field. Our clients are telling management how happy they are to get back online more quickly and save money because I’m turning around faster fixes. I definitely recommend it for anyone who needs PLC training at any level.

I needed to get up to speed on working with Siemens PLC equipment and came across RealPars training on YouTube. I watched my first video and immediately went to the website and signed up as a student. I like the way information is explained step-by-step and that it’s broken down into small chunks…I can go back and review anytime I want. I’m already seeing that I can perform repairs faster and with more confidence. Three of my co-workers were so impressed, they signed up for RealPars, too.
