In past videos we have focused primarily on discrete modules, meaning devices that will send or receive only a 1 or a 0, either on or off. There are many types of signal modules that may be used in a PLC based control system and this video discusses the Analog type modules that you may run into.
Analog modules are modules in which the signals coming from or going to are values in a varying range. We will also discuss when and why different modules are used under what circumstances.
You will learn of a device called a thermocouple which will be measuring the temperature of a furnace that is on the plant floor. We’ll also go into detail as to how we will control the temperature of this furnace using a varying range output signal to a proportional valve that will control the flow of gas to the furnace, which in turn, controls the temperature.
We’ll give you the in’s and out’s of how to incorporate analog modules within your control system and discuss typical signal conversion. So let’s get started learning about these widely used analog modules.
