Bailey, unfortunately, control of a hydraulic press is fairly complex and is beyond what I can explain in a reply to a post. As with any automation project, obtain the documentation from the equipment manufacturer, understand the operation and functions that the equipment is to perform, be fully aware of all of the sensors (like position resolvers and pressure sensors) and safety features, and develop a detailed functional specification which outlines the control system approach, along with a description of the logic. Have operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel review that document before programming. Have a detailed, complete testing protocol. Hydraulic presses are very powerful and potentially dangerous pieces of equipment.
