Ideal for you if…

  • You are an engineer involved in networking multiple PCs, PLCs, and other ethernet- connected devices together over a common network

  • You are interested in how ethernet-connected devices can share data with one another in a secure and reliable way

Description

In this course, you will learn how OPC Unified Architecture, or OPC UA, can be used to exchange data between process control system devices and applications. OPC UA, like OPC Classic, is a client-server based application. However, unlike OPC Classic, which has many forms, such as OPC Data Access (OPC DA) and OPC Historical Data Access (OPC HDA), OPC UA has only one structure which allows the configuration of many data types.

OPC UA data requests are set up through the use of a UA Client/Server Connection Link. This link takes advantage of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Secure HTTP (HTTPS) to establish a secure end-to-end connection between the OPC UA Client and OPC UA Server.

The method for configuring the client and server applications is presented through the use of examples, using an OPC UA simulation server. The concepts of Tagname, Value, Time Stamp, and Quality for each piece of data shared are developed along with Node ID, Data Type, Subscription ID, and Session ID.

The OPC UA server simulator and various client applications are used to demonstrate the configuration and execution of data exchange between PC stations and devices, such as PLCs.

Since I started training a few months ago, I can see there’s been a huge difference in how much more efficiently and effectively I can handle PLC repairs in the field. Our clients are telling management how happy they are to get back online more quickly and save money because I’m turning around faster fixes. I definitely recommend it for anyone who needs PLC training at any level.

I needed to get up to speed on working with Siemens PLC equipment and came across RealPars training on YouTube. I watched my first video and immediately went to the website and signed up as a student. I like the way information is explained step-by-step and that it’s broken down into small chunks…I can go back and review anytime I want. I’m already seeing that I can perform repairs faster and with more confidence. Three of my co-workers were so impressed, they signed up for RealPars, too.
