When you’re going to create a Profibus DP network, there is a hardware setup and also a software setup.
Hardware setup is taking a Profibus cable which is a usually in form of an RS-485 cable and connect your PLC to the remote station or the remote I/O that you have on the field.
Software setup, on the other hand, is configuring a Profibus-DP network in the software so that your PLC and the remote I/O station can actually talk to each other.
in this new course you’re going to learn how to do the Profibus setup in the software but before that, we’re going to review the hardware setup for Profibus-DP as well. I say “review” because I know most of you have already watched our YouTube video about Profibus-DP and how it works but since we’re going to get into the software setup this time, It’s helpful to “review” the hardware setup quickly again.
In the previous lesson we began describing how to use a Profinet-DP network within your control system. As discussed, you are going to place a remote station on the factory floor that will be used with your remote field devices.
That remote station is going to need an I/O station communicator. ...
The previous lesson had us discussing Profinet-DP networks and the ET200. This lesson continues where we last left off with instruction on how to set up the network within the STEP7 environment.
We start by describing the many components we are going to have within our control system. We will w...
In this lesson we are going to continue discussing the Profinet-DP network software setup. In the previous lesson, we showed you how to add the Profinet-DP network to the control system configuration and that is where we will start in this lesson. We will talk about some different devices that ma...
