In the previous two lessons we discussed the Stuxnet virus and its purpose. As you may recall, this virus was believed to be the very first of its kind that was produced in order to cause physical damage to machinery via an industrial automation system. In this lesson, we are going to continue our discussion about Stuxnet and tell you how it managed to cause physical damage to some industrial equipment. We will first need to have a refresher on how the PLC executes data. This information is important as this process is exactly what Stuxnet targeted and manipulated in order to have the PLC do its dirty work. This lesson is very interesting so let’s get to it!
